On Saturday, Sept 7th, our sweet baby girl turned a year old! I can't believe it has already been a year since she was born. Evie is a sweet and happy little baby. She loves to smile, and wave and say (in a honking sort of yell with a southern accent) "HIII" as soon as she wakes up, and all throughout the day.
I have never been a good baby book updater person... but have taken notes one my phone throughout the year. Here is a list of a few of her little accomplishments (that I actually kept track of) during the last year:
6 Weeks: She regularly slept for 8 hours straight at night
3 Months: Slept through the night. Also, Evie rolled from her back to her stomach, and the very next day rolled from her stomach to her back! This scared us a little thinking that she could be so mobile to early!
6 Months: She could sit up comfortably on her own. Also, while on her stomach she could push her booty up in the air and scoot forward. She also would roll and scoot forward to get to items she wanted. Mobile!
7 Months: She could put herself into the sitting up position, and clap after every time she would do it. She started crawling on her hands and knees. She also started eating puffs and other baby foods.
9 Months: She started climbing stairs, and could eat any table food as long as it was soft.
10 Months: Bottom two teeth came in.
11 Months: She started waving hello/goodbye and while saying "Hi", and her two top front teeth came in.
Now at 12 months: She can stand for a few seconds and is stable, but doesn't really have a desire to walk. She'll get there!
But more importantly, here are the things we love about our baby girl:
- She is so happy, and smiles all the time
- When she is picked up, most of the time she will rest her head on the person and pat their back/arm as if she is trying to comfort them
- Craig loves that her first word was "Dada" a few months ago. She also says "mama" and "hi" and "more" and does those honking yells to tell people what she wants.
- When she is near a pillow, she will lay on it and pretend she is sleeping. She does it a lot, and always with a big smile on her face. I think she knows we think it's adorable.
- She only throws things when she is throwing behind herself, like she is getting things out of the way... but when we try to get her to throw a ball or something to us, she will only gently hand it over.
- Whenever she does something that she thinks is good she will smile and clap for herself
- If Isaac is laying down on his stomach on the floor, she will go up to him and spank his booty. She doesn't do this to anyone else.
- A couple of weeks ago she started to clasp her hands together whenever she would start saying a prayer. It never lasts through the whole prayer, but it is always at the beginning of the prayer. She will also go from yelling loudly, to completely silent and staying that way through a prayer.
- She gives hugs and "kisses". Her kisses are more like open mouth and tongue to a persons face... but it's still a kiss to her!
- She plays pretend. She will pretend to eat play food, and pour the tea from a tea pot to cups, and if I hold my hand out to her she will always pretend to pick something up from it and eat it.
Here she is on her big day:
My parents came for a very short visit that morning... and it made Eve very happy.
She loved her new doll from grammy and papa!
Then, in the afternoon her Grandma and Grandpa came over for a visit. Eve opened her presents, we all had dinner and birthday cake together. It was a nice first little party for her!
Here she is saying "Hiiii" and waving while getting ready to open her present from her grandparents.
Special moments with grandma.
She loved her new walker!
And Ella loved helping Evie with the walker... and Isaac loved the walker too, and hated that it wasnt his. ha!
Time for cake!
She totally conquered her first cake!

I can't believe how fast it all went by! That is not (at all) to say it was a breeze. In fact, the first few months after Eve was born was the hardest time of my entire life. But that was because of everything that happened right after she was born (having a hematoma (supposedly so rare it's like getting struck by lightening), losing over 1/3 of the blood in my body, and needing a blood transfusion), and the terrible healing process because of it all. It left me feeling very emotionally and physically defeated. But while I was going through those hard months my family was so awesome. Craig was always by my side to help me physically, and hold me up emotionally, Ella and Isaac didn't show signs of jealousy and were so good about having a new baby, and Eve was my happy little cuddle girl from day one. During those hard months Eve was one of the biggest sources of joy. We love our Evie girl.
